How to Set Up Email Deliverability Before Your First Outbound Campaign

An in-depth blueprint for setting up high-deliverability cold email domains, configuring DNS records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and scaling sending volume safely.

Deliverability is the foundation of any outbound lead generation campaign. If your emails land in the spam folder, your copy, offer, and targeting do not matter. This playbook outlines our exact protocol for building domain systems that maintain 99%+ deliverability.

1. The Multi-Domain Strategy

Never send cold emails from your primary company domain. A single spam report spike can blacklist your main domain, disrupting internal and company-wide communications.

Our Setup Formula:

  • Purchase 3-5 secondary domains.
  • Limit sending volume to a maximum of 30-40 emails per inbox per day.
  • Set up 2 inboxes per domain.

2. DNS Configuration Checklist

Mail servers use three authentication protocols to verify that your email is authorized. You must configure:

SPF

Specifies authorized sending servers.

DKIM

Adds digital signature verifying origin.

DMARC

Instructs quarantine/reject policy on authentication failure.

3. Warmup & Ramp-up Timelines

New domains have zero sender reputation. Warm up each domain using simulation tools for at least 14 days before launch.

4. Deliverability Monitoring

Track open rates. If an inbox falls below 45%, pause the campaign and place it back on warmup.
