How to Write a 3-Step Cold Email Sequence That Earns Replies

Write conversation-led sequences that build authority and prompt low-friction responses from software decision makers.

Do not sell your product in the first email. Sell the conversation. Your first email should be short, soft, and focused on identifying if they experience the bottleneck you solve.

1. The Soft Hook (Email 1)

State your trigger signal (e.g., "noticed you're scaling your DevOps squad") and ask a low-friction question rather than pitching a 30-minute calendar link immediately.

2. The Proof Injection (Email 2)

Follow up 3-4 days later with a single line of case proof. E.g., "We helped [similar company] scale their release rate by 40% in 90 days. Worth exploring?"

3. The Clean Break (Email 3)

The third email is a break-up sequence. E.g., "Assuming this isn't a priority right now. I'll stop checking in." This often triggers replies from prospects who were simply busy.
